Best Time to Visit Morocco: A Complete Seasonal Guide

When Should You Visit Morocco?

Morocco is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on where you’re going and what you want to do. Here’s your complete guide to Morocco’s seasons and what to expect.

Spring (March – May): The Perfect Time

Spring is widely considered the best time to visit Morocco. Temperatures are pleasant across the country, ranging from 20-25°C (68-77°F) in most areas. The landscape is lush and green, especially in the Atlas Mountains where wildflowers bloom. This is ideal for:

  • Desert tours (comfortable temperatures)
  • City exploration (Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen)
  • Atlas Mountain trekking
  • Coastal visits to Essaouira and Agadir

Autumn (September – November): Second Best Season

Similar to spring, autumn offers mild temperatures and fewer crowds than peak summer months. The desert starts cooling down, making it perfect for Sahara tours. September can still be warm, but October and November are ideal.

Summer (June – August): Hot But Manageable

Summer in Morocco is hot, especially in Marrakech (up to 40°C/104°F) and the Sahara Desert. However, this is the best time for:

  • Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Agadir) – cooled by ocean breezes
  • Mountain retreats in the Atlas
  • Northern Morocco (Chefchaouen, Tangier)

Avoid the Sahara in summer unless you’re prepared for extreme heat.

Winter (December – February): Mild with Some Rain

Winter is mild in most of Morocco, with daytime temperatures around 15-20°C (59-68°F) in cities. This is the rainy season, though rainfall is generally light. Winter is perfect for:

  • Budget travel (lower prices, fewer tourists)
  • Desert tours (cool but comfortable)
  • City exploration
  • Skiing in the Atlas Mountains (yes, Morocco has ski resorts!)

Our Recommendation

For first-time visitors, we recommend April-May or September-October. These months offer the best weather across all regions and allow you to experience everything Morocco has to offer, from desert to mountains to coast.
